Pitch to Tawny

Write With Us!

Got something to say? Well, tawny wants to hear it.

We’re always looking for fresh voices, strong opinions, personal stories, and pitches that make us immediately want to open the email. tawny is a women’s lifestyle publication, which means we cover the fun stuff, the complicated stuff, and the why is nobody talking about this? stuff.

We like writing that feels like it came from a person, not a press release. Be conversational. Be funny when it makes sense. Have an opinion. Tell us something we haven't already read 47 times. Interview someone interesting. Find the person with a story we didn’t know we needed to hear. Trust us, they’re out there.

Lifestyle

Dating, friendships, work, money, wellness, adulthood, food & drink, travel, motherhood, and the everyday chaos of being a woman.

We want relatable essays, useful advice, personal experiences, observations, and takes on the things everyone seems to be thinking about but nobody wants to say out loud.

Culture

What's everyone talking about—and what do you have to say about it?

Culture is where we cover entertainment, internet moments, nostalgia, celebrities, social media, books, television, movies, music, and the trends currently taking over our group chats.

We're especially interested in pieces that go beyond simply reporting what's happening. Give us the tawny take.

Fashion

We're interested in fashion without pretending everyone has a designer budget.

Pitch us trends, personal style, shopping, nostalgia, celebrity fashion, affordable finds, fashion hot takes, seasonal pieces, and stories about what our clothes say about us.

If a trend is suddenly everywhere and you have thoughts, we're listening.

Beauty

Makeup, skincare, hair, nails, fragrance, beauty trends, products, routines, and the occasional beauty decision we probably should've thought through first.

We're looking for product-driven stories, personal essays, trend commentary, beauty experiments, recommendations, and strong opinions.

You don't have to love what's trending. In fact, sometimes we'd rather hear why you don't.

Features

This is where we want you to dig a little deeper.

tawny features are longer-form stories, reported pieces, interviews, profiles, personal essays, commentary, and stories centered on women's experiences.

Bring us an interesting person, an overlooked story, a fascinating question, or an experience worth spending more time with.

What We're Looking For

A good tawny pitch should have a clear angle, not just a general topic.

Instead of “I'd like to write about dating apps,” tell us why you think dating apps have turned flirting into unpaid administrative work.

We love pitches that are:

  • Conversational and full of personality
  • Relevant to women and our readers
  • Funny, thoughtful, vulnerable, useful, opinionated—or some combination of the above
  • Specific rather than overly broad
  • Original and written in your own voice
  • A natural fit for tawny

Above all, sound like yourself. We're looking for writers with voices, not writers trying to sound like everyone else.

How to Pitch Tawny

Send your pitch to contributors@tawnymagazine.com.

Please include PITCH and the proposed story title in your subject line.

In your email, tell us your proposed headline or working title, what the story is about, why it's a fit for Tawny, and a little about yourself. Please also include links to a few relevant writing samples or your portfolio if you have them.

You do not need to send us a completed article unless specifically requested. Start with the pitch first.

Please don't send the same pitch repeatedly. If we're interested, we'll be in touch.

One More Thing

Read tawny before you pitch tawny.

Get familiar with our voice, our stories, and the kinds of things we cover. We're not looking for perfectly polished corporate writing. We want stories with personality, perspective, and something worth saying.
