- Description: When faced with the prospect of the drinks menu, we all have our go-to's. Are you never far away from rich malbec? Do you ride-or-die for the crispiest pinot grigio? Or maybe your girl's night isn't complete without a cheeky Savvy B? We're here to tell you what it all means.

I used to drink Moscato. The sweeter, the better. If it tasted like melted peach rings, I was in. Boxed wine made sense in college, especially when the evening required frat party logistics. Boone’s Farm had its moment, mostly in fields. And as much as I hate to admit it, I decided Carlo Rossi sweet red wine and Diet Mountain Dew belonged in the same glass. I wish I were making that up.

Now I like my wine to taste like paper.

Okay, not literally. But I’ve reached the point where I can take a sip of something and say things like, “Oh, that’s nice,” as if I have any business weighing in on the matter. And by “research,” I mean I read a few tasting notes and decided I could detect blackberry.

And I’ve noticed that [we all have our wine habits](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/wine-basics-what-to-bring-to-every-kind-of-outing/).

The usual orders, the strong preferences, the opinions we can’t help having about what everyone else orders as well. We all have our reasons for ordering what we order, and I suspect a few of them say more about us than we’d like to admit.

Does your wine order reveal your personality? Probably not in any meaningful, peer-reviewed way. But it might tell us a little something about you. Or at least give us an excuse to make some extremely specific allegations.

*Disclaimer: Prepare to feel personally attacked.*

## Sauvignon Blanc: The Unapologetic Queen

“It’s a perfect day for my Savvy B,” she says, as if the weather app has a special setting for wine.

She has a favorite outdoor table at a restaurant and will request it. She takes 38 photos and posts four. The rest will resurface in 2029, when she wonders why she never posted the good ones.

She also has a favorite breeze.

You can't explain this.

You just know it's true.

She has great taste in almost everything, but her choice of friends might be her finest accomplishment. Just look at the company she keeps.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She has a designated vineyard hat.

## Pinot Grigio: The Social Butterfly

Two glasses in, everyone is her best friend.

She points at a woman she met 20 minutes ago and declares, “I LOVE YOU GUYS!” The server is included, because of course he is.

[She sends TikToks with no context.](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/im-not-an-influencer-so-why-does-my-life-feel-like-content/) She remembers your kids' names and the person you briefly dated in 2019\. She may have forgotten where she parked, but she remembers your daughter's science fair last Thursday.

She’s the friend who makes sure nobody gets left out, especially when someone new joins the group. There’s always room at her table.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She invited a woman she met in a restaurant bathroom to her wedding, then had to check the guest list to remember her name.

## White Zinfandel: The Tell It Like It Is Girl

She orders White Zinfandel with ice on the side. Your opinion is not required.

She wears skinny jeans and carries a purse dog named Kevin, who is not an accredited service animal. She knows dog park etiquette and will correct you if your dog is out of line.

Influencers annoy her. She has never bought a product just because a woman with a ring light told her to. She's bought the same face cream for 12 years and sees no reason to revisit the matter.

She'll tell you if your boyfriend is no good or your $180 haircut isn't working out. You'll be mad for a few minutes... and then you'll realize she's right.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She once told a sommelier to relax, and he actually listened.

## Chardonnay: The Research Queen

She knows Chardonnay can be crisp, buttery, oaked, unoaked, pale straw, or deep gold. She can tell you which bottles taste like someone dunked a stick of butter into a vat of cream.

She owns 43 pairs of shoes but wears the same three every week. She's read 200 air fryer reviews and knows which airline seats are worth the upgrade. She also has the correct way to load a dishwasher. Everyone else is wrong.

She's the friend you call before a major purchase. She's compared the options and found the one that costs less but performs better.

You will be receiving her report.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She once returned a suitcase because the wheels sounded wrong.

## Cabernet Sauvignon: The Reliable One

The weather finally drops below 65 degrees. “It's Cab weather,” she says with the confidence of someone who consulted an official chart.

She also says, “It has pockets!” every time someone compliments her dress. She keeps a sweatshirt in the car, even in August, and has a favorite grocery store despite three alternatives on the way there. She always has a hair tie on her wrist.

She knows which soup cures a sore throat, which freezes well, and which to buy when you don't feel like cooking. She has opinions about crackers, too.

She's the friend who shows up.

You don't have to clean the house first.

She didn't come over to inspect your baseboards.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She has purse snacks “just in case.”

## Merlot: The Comfort Zone Queen

She prefers something reliable over something she has to think about for 20 minutes. This applies to wine, cars, and most of life's decisions.

[Her last Instagram post was in 2021.](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/oversharing-is-out/) She drives a sensible, midsize SUV. It starts when the key turns. The AC works.

Oh, and it’s paid off.

Prime Day is basically her Super Bowl. “Soooo what did you get on Prime Day?” she asks with the energy of a sports reporter after the championship game. She's already checked the prices and sent three links to the group chat.

Pizza, a familiar movie, and a comfortable couch are her idea of a good night. You can show up in old PJ pants. She won't care.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She has a favorite paper towel brand and can identify it by touch.

## Pinot Noir: The Quiet Observer

She notices those little details that other people miss. She can tell when a restaurant has changed its hand soap, knows when hotel sheets have a higher thread count, and has very specific opinions about what temperature a bedroom should be.

She buys candles that smell like a forest and sometimes chooses books based on how they'll look on her nightstand. Her cat has a name that sounds like a retired English professor. Like, Walter or Edmund or Theodore.

She remembers birthdays, even the ones you mentioned in passing. Three weeks later, she'll ask how your big presentation went.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She rejected an Airbnb because the bedside lamps were incompatible with the room.

## Malbec: The Get It Done Girl

She can assemble furniture without crying or calling anyone. She knows the drive to the airport without checking a map.

She answers texts with “ok.” No extra punctuation. You know exactly where you stand.

She can parallel park with an audience. She can get a refund from customer service on the first try without elevating her voice.

While everyone else debates five restaurants, she books one. The group trip needs a rental car? Handled. The plans actually happen. You find out the hotel has been booked when she sends the confirmation number.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She's never once said, “Let's circle back.”

## Prosecco: The Celebration Queen

A good parking spot, a successful return, or surviving Tuesday deserves recognition. She's ready to celebrate.

She still sends Christmas cards through the mail. Her junk drawer looks like a miniature Party City: birthday candles, ribbon, gift bags, and supplies for a celebration nobody has planned yet.

Your package arrived early? Excellent.

You finally canceled that subscription? Huge.

She remembers the little wins and texts you about them days later.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She keeps a bag of bags inside another bag and refuses to throw any of them away.

## Rosé: The Easygoing Girl

Patio lunch? Rosé.

Tuesday night? Also rosé.

She doesn't need a special occasion or a whole explanation of what's in her glass.

She says, “No worries, if not!” before anyone suggests there might be a problem. She recommends a show after one episode and remembers her usual order at a restaurant she visits twice a year.

She'll tell you she can make the thing you saw on Pinterest, then send you a link to the finished version she bought instead. Honestly, fair.

You can change plans, order the wrong thing, or admit you don't understand the board game. She won't make you feel like you've failed a test you didn't know you were taking.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She once apologized to a self-checkout machine.

## Wine Flight: The Curious One

She's not indecisive. She's curious. One glass is insufficient data. “Wait, taste mine” is her love language.

She has a stack of empty Amazon boxes in the garage and supplies for at least [three hobbies she plans to revisit.](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/you-dont-have-a-hobby-youre-in-an-era/) She's tried pottery, sourdough, and something that required a special machine.

She's the person who orders three appetizers because “we should try them all.”

She'll talk you into a lamp-making class, and you'll probably have a story afterward.

**Unsubstantiated allegation:** She has a Notes app entry titled *Things I Need to Remember* that she hasn't opened in six months.

## Your Honor, These Allegations Are Made Up

Of course, none of this is scientific.

Our wine orders can't possibly explain our entire personalities.

But people change, and sometimes the wine changes with them.

The girl who drank boxed wine at frat parties is now the Cabernet Sauvignon girl who has an emergency car blanket. The girl who drank Boone's Farm in a field while her parents thought she was at a sleepover is now the Pinot Grigio girl who has befriended the entire restaurant. The woman who used to buy whatever jug of grocery store wine was cheapest now has strong opinions about tannins.

Maybe you've been all three. I drank Boone’s Farm in the woods, so I have no room to judge.

That's the fun of these little categories. They're made up, the allegations are entirely unsubstantiated, and none of us fits neatly into one wine order. But I bet you recognized your friends in these women. I bet you recognized yourself, too.

So order your usual, try something new, or pick the bottle with the prettiest label. We'll probably have an opinion about it anyway.

**And if you can't decide, order the flight.**
