How did one woman go from TikTok disaster to Broadway star?

I’ll never forget where I was when I saw the infamous TikTok. A friend sent it to me, laughing at the absurdity of it all. This woman in a Nirvana crewneck was dancing to a song in a hospital room while her baby was being treated for a serious illness. Not only that, but the story of his diagnosis and treatment was written on the screen for all to see.

To many, this came across as distasteful. She probably had no idea how much hate she would get for it. When she joined the cast of *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives*, the video was brought up. She seemed embarrassed by her actions, and everyone moved on.

Her controversy didn’t end there. Through the first two seasons of the show, Whitney came across as the villain to most people. To me, that was Demi, but I digress. She came across as a bad friend, sure, but she wasn’t evil. Clearly, she was struggling with her social connections and the women behind “MomTok.”

The group was relentless, unwilling to let her back in. At one point, she announced she would start her own “MomTok,” but that didn’t pan out in the long run. All of this seems like a mediocre run at reality TV after recovering from a notorious TikTok that gained unwanted attention. However, her story shifted as the show was picked up for more seasons.

One thing Whitney has that some of the other “MomTok” members lack is charisma. When she would do her confessionals on *SLOMW*, she was incredibly likable. She was funny, her husband was sweet, and her kids were adorable. Her storyline was always interesting, and even if fans didn’t welcome her with open arms at first, they still wanted to see her life unfold on TV.

Once she auditioned for [*Dancing With the Stars*](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/my-thoughts-on-the-dancing-with-the-stars-season-35-cast-pairings/) and made the cast, things began to shift for Whitney. Now, the audience was seeing her true potential. She was not only good on the show, but she was captivating to watch on and off screen. Her social media presence blossomed, and she did something no one else but Taylor Frankie Paul had done at this point: become a household name.

Sure, she wasn’t that famous, and your grandma definitely doesn’t know who she is, but the people who mattered saw something in her. She was more than a TikTok mom; she had the real talent it took to make it in the entertainment industry.

---

She was starring in the show for a month, all while still filming *SLOMW*. Somehow, throughout the process, she made her acting debut on screen, though this project hasn’t been released or announced, only hinted at in the latest season of *Secret Lives*. That’s not all she has coming up.

It was recently announced that the current season of *SLOMW* will be her last. Apparently, she and her husband, Connor Leavitt, are taking on a new media endeavor; we’ll learn more about it as the season unfolds.

Oh, and I can’t forget that her husband, Connor, was on the latest season of *Dancing With the Stars*. Spoiler alert: He didn’t do great and went home first, but it’s obvious he reached that point because of his wife’s success and their endearing storyline on *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives*.

Whitney will also be featured in the upcoming season of everyone’s favorite show, *The Traitors*. She’s the first from her reality show to join the cast, and it will be fun watching her, whether she’s a Traitor or not.

So, how did Whitney recover from a questionable-at-best TikTok performance and turn her career into something truly special? Grit. She’s had it from the beginning. From her move to Hawaii at the beginning of Season 1 to her rise to fame quicker than anyone else on the cast, she had a determination that couldn’t be taken from her. She was a powerhouse waiting for her moment, and it paid off.

Even if you’re not as big a fan as I am, you have to admit she has something special. Her rise to fame has been exciting and interesting to watch. She jumped through hoops to stay relevant and made it look easy.

**I’m excited to see where her career takes her.**
