Nobody does Halloween quite like the early 2000s. And if you're a Y2K fanatic like me, you're probably finding all your Halloween inspiration from this nostalgic era.

[Spooky season](https://www.tawnymagazine.com/top-10-spooky-books-to-curl-up-with-this-fall/) is in full swing, so here are 10 Y2K movie characters and celebrities to satisfy all your early 2000s Halloween dreams (or nightmares).

## The Plastics From Mean Girls

I'm of the opinion that *Mean Girls* practically invented Halloween. Any Y2K lover remembers the iconic Halloween sequence, complete with Cady's unforgettable explanation of Halloween in girl world.

> “In girl world, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”

That scene practically set the standard for Halloween costumes, and all the movie's characters showed up for the occasion.

From Karen's mouse costume ("I'm a mouse, duh!") to Regina's bunny outfit and Gretchen's black catsuit, this Y2K favorite offers the perfect group or solo costume.

The movie keeps on giving with the girls' "Jingle Bell Rock" talent show looks and even their classic "On Wednesdays, we wear pink" outfits.

Or, if you're looking to go a little scarier, Cady's corpse bride costume, complete with fake teeth and a black wig, makes for a fun movie callback.

## Elle Woods From Legally Blonde

Elle might have been a bit out of place showing up to Vivian's party in a pink Playboy Bunny costume, but no one can deny that she looked incredible.

Between the pink choker, fluffy bodysuit, and adorable matching mini purse, this look is a Y2K girl's dream. I won't lie, I actually dressed up in this outfit last Halloween, and my girls loved the movie reference.

Beyond her bunny costume, Elle Woods and her signature pink power suit are another great option for Halloween nostalgia.

You can even accessorize with a stuffed dog and have your very own Bruiser Woods accompany you on your Halloween adventures.

## Shelby Cummings From A Cinderella Story

When Shelby Cummings and her entourage of cool girls stepped out at the dance in their light pink angel outfits, younger me's jaw absolutely dropped.

Their looks are a mainstay on my Halloween Pinterest board, and I'll forever be coveting Shelby's tall, lace-up boots.

This costume is easy to recreate with a pair of pink shorts, a lace-up top, and some knee-high boots.

To serve full Shelby Cummings glamour, finish the look with a voluminous blowout and hot pink glitter eyeshadow.

## Anna Coleman From Freaky Friday

I cannot be the only one who thought Anna Coleman was the coolest girl ever as a child (and NGL, I still do).

With her chunky highlights, rocker-girl style, and rebellious attitude, I wanted to be her so badly.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/5d/7f/5d7fd442-71ad-4570-8922-dc1cc32e7d8e/content/images/2026/10/Anna-coleman.webp)

One of her most iconic looks features a black-and-red long-sleeve top paired with olive cargo pants, a studded black belt, and a black choker.

Use some temporary hair color to imitate her highlights, and you've got a comfy, nostalgic Halloween costume that serves the best of rocker chic.

## Aquamarine From Aquamarine

*Aquamarine* is a Y2K staple, and I don't see this costume recreated nearly enough!

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/5d/7f/5d7fd442-71ad-4570-8922-dc1cc32e7d8e/content/images/2026/10/9f14865b366a32aa628240139d79c0d7.jpg)

Who among us wasn't obsessed with Aquamarine's light blue highlights?

And when she tied that light blue dress into a halter, younger me thought she was the most fashionable girl on Earth.

This look is super easy to recreate with a flowy blue dress and matching hair accessories. If only we could have those starfish earrings that whisper compliments in real life.

## The Charlie’s Angels From Charlie’s Angels

Charlie's Angels are a classic trio costume, and the film has so many great outfits that make for stylish Halloween inspiration.

Recreate the girls' all-black looks for some spy realness, or channel the icons with their blue racetrack outfits.

Whether you're opting for these chic ensembles or their fun, matching Oktoberfest looks, make sure to snap a photo with your girls in the classic Charlie's Angels pose.

## Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera is one of the 2000s' biggest fashion icons, so it's no surprise that her music video and performance looks have become Y2K staples.

One of her most recognizable looks is her "Dirrty" outfit, complete with black-and-red chaps and a striped bikini top.

I absolutely loved Kylie Jenner's recreation of this look in 2016, and she also paid homage to Xtina with a yellow-and-black outfit from the same era. Both ensembles are fun, edgy Halloween options.

I also love Christina's 2002 VMAs look, featuring a blue scarf top and white newsboy hat.

## Britney Spears

Britney Spears' wardrobe offers so many great Halloween looks!

Two years ago, my friends and I dressed up as different Britney eras, and it's still one of my favorite group costumes we've ever done.

I chose Britney's schoolgirl outfit from her "...Baby One More Time" music video, while my friends sported her red latex jumpsuit from "Oops!... I Did It Again," the ringmaster costume from her *Circus* era, and her black tie-and-hat ensemble from "Me Against the Music."

Other great Britney Halloween inspiration includes her iconic snake performance look from "I'm a Slave 4 U."

And for a cute couples costume, Britney and Justin Timberlake's matching denim outfits from the 2001 American Music Awards are an absolute must.

## Paris Hilton And Nicole Richie

Paris Hilton is my ultimate Y2K icon, and this list wouldn't be complete without a reference to her 2000s wardrobe.

My favorite Halloween inspiration from her is the denim looks she and Nicole Richie wore on *The Simple Life*.

Richie sports a pair of unbuttoned overalls over a pink bikini top, while Hilton wears a denim lace-up corset and matching miniskirt.

I've also turned to Hilton's own Halloween costumes for inspiration (her Sailor Moon look is currently sitting in my closet), and I loved her 2011 Cinderella costume and 2014 Minnie Mouse look.

## Jennifer Check From Jennifer’s Body

Megan Fox as Jennifer Check, the cheerleader-turned-demon from *Jennifer's Body*, is one of my favorite late-2000s characters.

I love her pink heart zip-up and low-rise jeans for a low-key, girly costume. I also adore her miniskirt and white puffer jacket look, along with her purple color guard ensemble.

For any of these looks, you can add a little fake blood (she is a man-eating demon, after all) for some spooky yet girly Y2K vibes.
