When the only fall foliage you see is an occasional fallen palm frond, you learn to get creative with your outfits. You can't exactly throw on a cable-knit sweater and knee-high boots. But what you *can* do is embrace the warm-weather version. Wearing a sweater in this weather would basically be the equivalent of walking around in a sauna. Good news, though! Sleeveless sweaters exist, aka sweater vests. Sweater vests give you the knitwear and layering that fall wardrobes are known for, minus the unbearable warmth. Pair one with a frilly mini skirt for a breezy pumpkin-patch outfit. Then, at night, dress it up with jeans and kitten heels. They're versatile enough to layer, dress up or down, and work with just about any aesthetic. Basically, they're the chunky knit sweater's hot-weather equivalent. ## Canadian Tuxedos are So In, Especially in Dark Denim Deep, dark tones are what truly transition a summer wardrobe into fall. I love the rich, romantic colors autumn fashion brings, and dark denim is one of my favorites. But when you live in 80-degree weather, head-to-toe heavy denim isn't exactly the most comfortable option. Luckily, there are some workarounds. Recently, a Walmart matching set has gone viral that's practically made for warm-weather fall dressing. And drumroll, please... it's a Canadian tuxedo. A Canadian tuxedo is always in, in my opinion. It's effortless but still looks put-together. An even more warm-weather-friendly alternative is a denim vest paired with jeans. Add booties, and you have the epitome of a fall outfit. --- ## Swap Mini Skirts for Midi Skirts Skirts allow for plenty of movement and are endlessly versatile. You can wear one while running errands, then style it up for an intimate date night. As you transition into the fall months, swap some of your summer mini skirts for sleek midi skirts. They're an easy way to bring a little more layering and dimension into your wardrobe without piling on thick fabrics. A satin midi skirt, specifically, nails that polished fall aesthetic while still keeping you cool. And because skirts are so versatile, you can easily incorporate other elements of fall fashion that aren't weather-dependent, like seasonal patterns, colors, and accessories. ## Breezy Fabrics for the Win As you curate your fall wardrobe, opt for breathable, transitional fabrics like linen and cotton. Both work year-round, but more importantly, they're breezy and functional, which is essential when you're dressing for fall temperatures that don't actually feel like fall. Pair linen pants or cotton shorts with a lightweight cardigan for an autumnal outfit that still prioritizes comfort. Breezy fabrics give you those simple, layered silhouettes without the sweat that traditional fall materials can bring. --- ## All the Cool Girls Wear Ballet Flats At least that's what I tell myself to cope with the fact that I can't channel my 2010 infinity-scarf-and-knee-high-boots era in this heat. If you can't wear leather boots, wear the next best thing: leather ballet flats. They're chic, timeless, and coordinate with practically anything. Dress them up, dress them down, or even wear them around the house. Ballet flats are the modern-day white Converse (IYKYK). They'll never let you down. A sleek brown pair or a pop of cherry red is an easy way to incorporate fall colors without sacrificing comfort. Wear them apple picking, to the farmers market, while decorating, or on coffee runs. The options are endless ## If the Leaves Don't Change Color, At Least Your Wardrobe Can Make your closet your own personal fall landscape, filled with warm hues, earthy tones, and textured prints. If all else fails, keep your summer silhouettes and remix them with fall prints, textures, and colors. When shopping, look for these to capture the fall essence: **Earthy Tones:** Forest and olive greens, tans, chocolate browns, and burnt orange **Rich Colors:** Burgundy, deep brown, and navy **Fall Patterns:** Plaid, gingham, and stripes **Textured Materials:** Corduroy, suede, denim, and knit Mentally, I'm frolicking through fall leaves in leg warmers, a chunky cable-knit sweater, and knee-high boots. Physically, I'm carrying around a portable fan while pretending my sweater vest is a turtleneck. **But a girl can pretend, right?**
